Eagle Steps
Step #5 - Eagle Scout Timeline of Events
Below is a typical timeline of events that Eagle Scout candidates may use a guideline.

-
As a Life Scout, work towards completing all required merit badges total of 21.
Note: You do not have to have all merit badges completed before you start your Eagle Scout project. In fact, it is encouraged to work concurrently towards merit badge completion and project initiation.
-
Maintain leadership position in the troop for a period of 6 months.
-
Begin serious thought about possible Eagle Scout projects. Take a look at some other scout ideas and research on your own. There are many organizations that would benefit from your services. Examples are listed on this Web site and are intended to be suggestions for you to follow.
-
Once you have selected a project, contact the organization your project will benefit and ask to discuss your idea with a representative. This person will become your project adviser and will ultimately approve or deny your efforts based upon their expectations.
-
BUY A NOTEBOOK and start a Personal Project Time Log. This will be critical to record all data to include phone calls with organizations, meeting time with representatives, Scoutmaster and Troop members, actual service project time including yourself, and your fellow scouts. Your personal log will contain all the necessary information you'll need to complete your Service Project Report.
-
Fill out the Eagle Scout Project Preapproval Form found on this Web site. Make sure your project representative or "adviser" and Scoutmaster has signed off .
-
Schedule a time during a Troop Committee meeting with Robin Lallement, Committee Chair to present your project proposal to the Committee Members. Note: Be prepared to confidently and competently present your idea and have at least five copies of your proposal for the committee to review. Photos, diagrams, and/or illustrations go a long way in explaining your concept of improvement or benefit of service.
-
Once the committee finds your proposal meets all necessary requirements and suggestions to make your project a success have been discussed, the Committee Chair takes vote. If approved, the Committee Chair signs the Preapproval Form. Now, with all signatures from the Troop and organization representative are in hand, you then need final approval from the Nittany District Advancement Chairman, Mr. Tom Fonda.
Note: Make a copy of your Preapproval Form and mail the original to Mr.
Fonda.
-
Once Mr. Fonda has signed off the form, he'll return it to you with notes and suggestions.
-
Schedule time to begin your project. Depending upon the specifics of your project, the time of the year may or may not affect your wok sessions. Call upon your fellow scouts for assistance. Send email messages, text messages, and/or Troop meeting announcements to solicit help. Offer refreshments like pizza and soda do well to recruit help!
-
TAKE PHOTOS. While you are directing the project, have your camera ready to record your work. Be sure to include before and after photos as well as project development shots. Remember, you are telling a story and these images will help illustrate your project to those members on the board of review who cannot be there.
-
Upon completion of your project remember those who helped you. Leaders, scouts, parents, and family members who volunteered their time can all be recorded. Use your Personal Time Log as your road map to write the report. See links on this Web site for examples of Eagle Scout Report Samples.
-
Your finished Project Report draft should be submitted to Mrs. Marge Sutherland for proofing. Mrs. Sutherland will mark your copy and return to you for correction. Remember, Mr. Tom Fonda, District Advancement Chair, who gives final approval has very clear suggestions for what he is looking for.
